The amount of coat depends on several factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Climate.<\/strong> Where does the Silken live, what country, what climate? How cold is it really and how much time does the dog spend outside in really cold wheather?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Food<\/strong>, good quality food will produce bigger coats than food of lesser quality<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Genes<\/strong>, some lines carry more coat than others<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Intact females<\/strong> will shed approx 4 months after being in season, but can still amass quite a lot of coat in between<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Adult males<\/strong> that has shed the junior\/youth coat and has the adult coat, can add more and more coat at least up until around 10 years of age.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • It is not uncommon that really old Silkens<\/strong> will have less coat than they had in their prime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Some will say that white coats<\/strong>, even just the white parts of a dog, will shed more than the other colors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The more coat the dog has, the more it will shed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
